Abstract

The paper provides a floristic account of Barnadi Wildlife Sanctuary, Assam which includes 454 species, 2 subspecies and 3 varieties belonging to Angiosperms and Pteridophytes. The maximum numbers of species are represented by dicotyledons with 332 species, 1 subspecies and 3 varieties, followed by monocot with 99 species and pteridophytes with 24 taxa. Habitat and life forms analysis of the flora revealed that there are 262 herbs 89 trees, 61 shrubs and 47 undershrub. A brief account of vegetation of the sanctuary, economic potential of plants, threats and conservation measures has been provided.

Abstract

The paper provides a floristic account of Laokhowa Wildlife Sanctuary which includes 409 taxa belonging to 303 genera and 105 families of Angiosperms and Pteridophytes. The dicotyledons are represented by 281 species, 1 subspecies, 3 varieties, monocotyledons are with 104 species; while pteridophytes with 20 species. There are 266 herbaceous species, 49 trees, 63 shrubs and 31 under shrubs. Habitats wise, there are 351 species of terrestrial, 9 epiphytes, 45 aquatic and 4 parasites. A brief account of vegetation of the sanctuary, economic potential of plants, threats and conservation measures have been provided.

Abstract

Impatiens angustiflora Hook.f. (Balsaminaceae) re-collected from the type locality, Khasi Hills, Meghalaya, India after almost 67 years. The actual distributional range of the species has been discussed on actual data as there were erroneous reports of its occurrence. To facilitate its proper identity and easy identification, detailed description from live materials with coloured illustrations, comparison of characters with closely allied species are presented. The present status of the species in wild and measures of conservation are provided. A lectotype is designated here as no holotype was indicated in the protologue.

Abstract

Spathoglottis affinis de Vriese is reported for the first time from India based on specimens collected from Meghalaya. A brief description, photographic illustration, along with information on flowering, habitat and distribution have been provided to facilitate its identification. Its Red list status has been assessed as ‘Vulnerable’ as per IUCN guidelines.
